Gone, Mama, gone

Erin leaves tomorrow morning for a three day snowmobiling trip in Yellowstone National Park. I have been wanting her to get out and do something by herself for a long time; she finally listened to me. Hopefully, it is the first of many such adventures.
Word has reached me that some are more than a little […]

Maggie got her first fat lip this weekend. She fell down on the playground equipment and bounced her face off of it. Her Mama laughed at her when we returned home; supposedly, it’s a defense mechanism but I don’t believe it.
Please ignore the snot–it’s not the point of the picture.
California, California.

Hey all - My parents went to Napa Valley and San Francisco in October (for the 2nd or 3rd time???). Mom finally sent pictures. I have posted some of the good ones in our photo section of the website. Ahh…California…so close but so far away! Hopefully Jason, Maggie and I will get there soon!

Recent times have witnessed a great number of changes in the way we live and think. There are things we do today which were unthinkable even a generation or two ago; conversely, there are many things we go without now which our forerunners thought of as necessities. Among the latter, sadly, is our relationship with […]

Well, for all intents and purposes, deer hunting season #1 is over for me (although the season does not close until 31 Oct, I want to spend time with Erin and Maggie, especially since they’ve been gone for 2 weeks). I went out today with a co-worker. We got a good start by being in […]

I had written a much longer version of this post but I heard Erin’s voice in my head: “People don’t want to read some boring tale about your hunting adventures.” Fair enough. So, in an effort to keep it short:
I hunted by myself both days this weekend. My co-worker, JC, was not able to come […]

I actually—FINALLY!!!—went hunting (for grouse) yesterday. I’ve been hunting before—twice while still in high school. I didn’t get anything back then and had only one occasion on which to fire my borrowed rifle. Since then, the opportunity to go again just hasn’t come up; even if it had, my stupid foolish pride would have kept […]

Erin, as I think I have mentioned before, loves the band Live. Yes, they’ve had #1 hits and have sold 20 million records worldwide but I don’t really get into them. Alas, this will be the third time she has dragged me to one of their concerts. This one is in Ketchum, ID, which is […]

We had a really nice storm move through here last night, the first in a long time. (It is the desert, after all; we don’t get much of that stuff they call rain.) It had all the necessary items: wind, thunder, rain (albeit not much), and, of course, lightening. The lattermost of these caused a […]

For those of you who doubt me in my desire to get Maggie into the outdoors, you need to check this out. People really do actually do this kind of thing, even in this age of overly self-indulgent modernity. And these folks are not isolated; the proof is in an Internet search for ‘Daddy Daughter Campout.’
