Farewell little turtle

Posted on July 12, 2006 - Filed Under Adult swim

I was driving back from the gym this morning on the road that leads to our development. As I am driving, I see in front of me a turtle crossing the street. I wouldn’t have known it was a turtle if it had not been moving ever so slowly across the road. I swerved to avoid the little guy, looking back to see if it was still there. As I approached our developement I couldn’t stand leaving the poor little turtle in the road. I did a u-turn and went back to find him. When I located him, still in the road, I turned into someones driveway and got out of the car. I was all prepared to run out to scoop the little turtle up with some paper when some idiot ran the poor guy over. The little turtle when flying into the air and landed somewhere in the grass. I could not locate him after the hit and run. So I say farewell little turtle, I hope your shell was hard enough to take the blow.

This is the second turtle I have come across in the last month. The first on was under our deck. Before last month, I never have seen a turtle in our area. The are very small turtles about the size of a baseball. I can’t figure out where they are coming from? Quite a strange occurance but not as strange as the giant 4 foot turkey that was hanging out in our neighbors yard a month ago.

I know how it hurts to not to be able to do a good deed. When i was growing up , i had many pet turtles. They had painted shells which they are forbidden to do now. That is a humane thing.
