No fireworks here

Well, there’s no headline from here regarding Maggie’s first Fourth of July. I guess the main factor was the weather: basically, it was terrible. It really looked as though the city might cancel the fireworks show; as it turns out, they did not.
Rob, who is visiting, Erin, and I decided we might stand a good chance of obtaining a good viewing seat if we drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway a bit and thusly ended up at the Walnut Cove Overlook. So, we threw all of us, including the dog, into the Rav. (As a footnote, Wilson rode for the first time in the back; he did not enjoy it. Basically, he really likes to be able to see out but if he sits or stands back there, he gets thrown around a bit. So, we have to tell him to sit or lay down and that is sad for him.) Anyway, we got up there and it seemed it might be okay…that was at about 8pm. Well, at 9:55, having only been able to see other cities’ fireworks in the very far distance, we decided to leave. It wasn’t a complete waste, however; as Erin observed and we agreed, it was really peaceful and cool in temperature, so that made it quite nice. Anyhow, I guess we’ll have to wait until next year for Maggie to experience the colors and the booms…oh well, she’ll probably be able to appreciate it a whole lot better by then.
Check out the photo gallery–we were able to catch a couple good pictures of the Magpie and her new friend Bacon.
