A Profile in Courage
Posted on June 7, 2006 - Filed Under The Daily Doodle
Yesterday, I finally gained the courage to join the YMCA. The couragous part was not about exercising, it was about leaving Maggie with someone else to take care of her. This decision was made a little easier because I know Amy, one of the daycare workers through Jason’s work. When I dropped Maggie off, both the infant and toddler rooms were quite chaotic with staff and little ones running around. Amy quickly came up to me, scooped Maggie up and took her into the daycare room. They gave me a number to pin onto my shirt in case Maggie became inconsolable and someone needed to find me. I left the room feeling a bit out of sorts but also slightly relieved. At home when I use the treadmill, Maggie will become fidgety and upset in the final 5-10 minutes of my run so I end up needing to sing to her in order to make it through.
When I came back to pick up Maggie the room was much quieter. I could see there were 2 babies in using the swings. Both swings were facing away from the pickup area but I knew my little Maggie by the pile of hairfluff peaking out from the top of the swing.

iT IS HARD TO LEAVE A LITTLE ONE EVEN IF YOU ARE IN THE SAME BUILDINGi
I remember the first time I left you in the church nursery it was nerve-wracking. I did know the women that took care of the room. You were in the crib it didn`t make it any easier that I had left your brother when he was a baby in there. It is even worse when you leave your child wilth a baby sitter,at least now there are cell phones. Remember at that time it was the dark ages, they had to page you. Every time the phone rang we were on meedles and pins.
