Anyone for nudity?

A columnist in the Asheville Citizen-Times yesterday wrote about nudity. The article was basically her sounding off regarding how she feels about it. The thing that caught my eye was her talking about nudity amongst family members, especially between children and their parents. This subject came up between Erin and I before Maggie was ever born, one of those musing conversations expectant parents often have about random parenting topics. We’re both pretty loose about it, relative at least to our fellow Americans. But probably not so when compared to many European cultures, as is pointed out in a piece this columnist points to. It’s really very interesting. The portion of the article I really like is:

In fact, research suggests that children who have seen their parents nude do not grow up to be emotionally scarred, but instead are more likely to be accepting of their own bodies and comfortable with their own sexuality.

Assuming our attitudes don’t change in the next several years, it makes me feel good to know that Maggie will be raised in a home where nudity is natural and nothing to be embarrassed over.
