My mother-in-law and I took her cousin to the airport today, about a 1.5 hour drive in normal conditions. The trip down was fine; our return was not nearly so great. Florida has been dealing with some pretty crazy outdoor fires lately and, as a result, part of I-95 North was closed. Well, it just happened to be the part we needed to travel. So, we ended up having to find our way home. In the end the entire trip took only four hours; normally, one can expect a three hour round-trip.

Maggie really hung in there yesterday for the first big car ride of her little life. What has been an eight hour trip in the past turned into a full ten hours, but she was a little trooper. We obviously needed to stop to feed and/or change her a number of times which, ultimately, was probably the reason it took as long as it did. The up-shot of the drive was that it gave Erin and I the opportunity to really talk about things, something we have not been doing due to Maggie still being in that needy infant stage. And since Maggie likes riding in the car so much, I think she took the opportunity to just hang out, thereby affording Mama and Papa sometime to themselves, more or less.

I just returned from taking Wilson to the beach. One of the other one or two times he’s been here, I took him but that was when he was still very unsure about the water. Well, today he really showed how much he’s matured. He was getting all wild in the water and running around in the sand like a madman. He had a grand ole time, yes he did.

I will put up some pictures of the trip when I get a chance.
