Dora

If you’re like me, I only know what I know about the world of children–cartoons, toys, characters, etc.–because I have one. I long ago ‘gave up childish things.’ So, normally, I would not know who Dora the Explorer is. However, I have been forced to become very knowledgeable ever since Maggie began getting into her.
For those of you who don’t know Dora, she is a little cartoon girl (probably about 6 years old) who bleeds confidence, is English/Spanish bilingual, has a monkey named Boots as a best friend, and has come to be completely pervasive (I saw a can of corn in the grocery store the other day with her face on it–canned corn!!). Sure, she’s pleasent enough, but as with all things, I think moderation is the way to go. Maggie, on the other hand, has become literally addicted to Dora. She said to me a couple of weeks ago, “I want Dora everything,” meaning that she wants the image of this little girl on a bike, bathrobe, soap, cereal, TV, stickers, etc., etc., etc. (Erin had inadverently created this idea in her head by saying that Maggie wanted Dora on everything.) It came to a cute head the other day while Maggie was sitting at the kitchen table. She told her Mama, “I want a Dora gun just like Daddy.” Just to be clear, none of my firearms have Dora on them and never will. However, Maggie will one day have a gun of her own (probably this one, given how much she loves pink) to customize in whatever way she sees fit.

Does Maggie have the Dora leapster game?
This is one of Laurens favorites.
No, she doesn’t. We’ve seen it but hesitated to buy it because it deepen the addiction. We’ll probably pick it up eventually.
