Cross-country trip

Maggie and I just got back from a two week trip to Florida. The flights to Florida were absolutely horrible. From Idaho to Denver Maggie and I had the window seat. The woman setting next to us (middle seat) was probably close to 400lbs. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Maggie decided to throw a 30 minute temper-tantrum, kicks, punches and pinching included. The second flight from Denver to Orlando was better. My seat partners were a man and woman from Canada. The woman was really nice and held Maggie until she feel asleep. Whenever I fly West to East I always get the most horrible ear pain. This time was even worse because I was just starting to recover from a bad sinus infection and bronchitis. Needless to say I was very happy to be through with traveling that day.

I spent most of the first week at my parents trying to recover from being sick.  I was looking forward to a little relief from my Idaho allergies in Florida until I learned that the east coast of Florida was being affected by the “red tide”. The “red tide” is a sea algae that blooms in the water and is picked up by the wind and carried to land causing anyone near to cough and wheeze intensely. It actually got so bad at my parents local beach that people were told to wear lite respirator masks if they walked on the beach. The severity of the effects of “red tide” changes daily and is quite an interesting experience.

By the second week at my parents I was feeling much better. Mom made all my favorite comfort foods & we ate out at my favorite restaurants. (I know, I’m spoiled =) Maggie learned how to escape from her pack-in-play. In the morning she would quietly crawl out of bed, open the door, leave and close the door behind her - trying hard not to wake me up. I would here her walk out into the living room and say hi to my parents. It was all very cute. It was nice too because I got to sleep in.

Our trip back from Florida went well. I was lucky to have an empty seat on both flights home making it much easier to keep Maggie contented.
