“We’re not made of stone / We’re all just skin and bone”

*Breakdown by Terri Hendrix. I had never heard of this woman before yesterday when this song played on WDVX. She seems to be a folk artist from TX. The lyrics of this song are very striking; you should read the entire thing.
I had a pretty bad day at work yesterday and into today, for a number of reasons, too many and complex to list here. Anyway, one of the hallmarks of teaching is that you really aren’t in a position to show your mood to your students; not only might a teacher’s bad mood jeopardize the learning environment, the information revealed in response to the inevitable questions of ‘Why?’ might compromise the required professional distance. Unfortunately, I have a very difficult time hiding my feelings. My students are easily able to pick up on me not being on top of my game. After having to put up this facade for a while, the process begins to suck your energy. Just one of the things I have found to be most challenging about this job.
