Back to work, well sort of…

Last week I started substitute teaching in the local primary school (K-4). My first class I worked for was 3rd grade on the second day of school. Fortunately the automated computer program used to find substitutes had a glitch and hired 2 subs for that day. No training was offered for beginner substitute teachers (crazy!) so I had to rely on my mother’s advise and the help of the 2nd substitute.
This week I worked Wednesday and Thursday for a 1st grade class and Friday for the Librarian. Just in my brief time teaching elementary students I gained quite a bit of insight into our schools & the children that attend (I will expand this topic later). It also brings back some fond memories of when I was young. I can definitely say that I am exhausted by the end of the day and wish to see no children. Funny, this is exactly what my mother would say on Fridays after a long week of teaching second graders.
I am really happy to be back working. Before I had Maggie I thought I wanted to stay home until until he/she was ready to start Kindergarten. I felt this way until about Maggie’s 14 month birthday. It was about that time that I noticed Maggie had so much energy and was getting bored just hanging around the house. I also was also starting to get bored and feel like I needed to do something more that be a full time mother. So I searched and searched for the perfect place for Maggie and found that in a local Montessori School. I felt really comfortable with the staff, the Montessori teaching style and the small groups of children. Maggie is in her third week of attending the school and appears to really love it there. She doesn’t cry when I drop her off and doesn’t want to leave when I pick her up.
