Almost done

Well, I’m almost done with my hunter’s safety class. It has indeed been a very long week; I look at Erin and Maggie and they feel like strangers because I basically haven’t seen them all week. I don’t know what I would do if I had to work a second job at night. It would really suck. I have to go back Monday night and take the test and then I’m done.
We were sitting there in class Tuesday, waiting for everyone to show up so we could begin. Two of the attendees arrived, who happened to be young men, probably 20-25 years old. Often, people at this stage of life seem to act tough and apathetic as a way of being ‘cool.’ I can’t stand that mentality. Anyway, the one who seemed to possess this attitude the most was wearing a button shirt unbuttoned with a T-shirt underneath. The T-shirt was one of these that has a supposedly funny saying on it. This one had a very obscene statement, highly offensive to a lot of people, which used the ‘f word’ all spelled out (yes Mom, they are allowed to sell such things). One of the instructors saw it before the kid even had a chance to sit down and told him he had to button up his outer shirt, which the guy did. I tell this story because I am still in shock that someone would think that knowingly walking into a room full of children who are 10-15 years old while wearing that shirt is okay. Who does that?! Also, I am so happy that Idaho says you have to be in your thirties before you are considered old enough to not have to take the class. These two guys needed to be knocked a couple rungs and maybe being talked to like they are 12 will have this effect.
Anyway, we had our ‘range day’ this morning during which we shot .22s at targets 25 yards out. I don’t shoot very well (according to my standards) with my .30-06, so I didn’t know what to expect. As it turned out, I did pretty well. When you look at the picture, you might ask yourself why I consider not hitting the black center even once good. Well, if you know anything about guns, you’ll be able to tell that the rifle was obviously not correctly sighted in prior to my firing it. So, the grade I give myself is more based on the fact that I was able to achieve a relatively good grouping than where on the target the bullets landed.
