*End of the Line by The Traveling Wilburys. Even as a 14 year old quasi-headbanger, I thought these guys were really cool. Made up of superstars Roy Orbinson, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and George Harrison, they only made one record together. Then, Roy died; the rest of the members went on to do another but it just wasn’t the same. Anyway, if you remember them and think you might still be into them, even a little, you will be excited to know both of the CDs are about to be re-released! I am pretty excited and intend on snapping that up very soon after it comes out.
As you know, if you’ve been reading here lately, we made a trip back home a couple weeks ago. We did a fair amount of driving once we arrived and there’s something about the hills and farm roads of PA that always has gotten my mental wheels turning. On this particular trip, I began to think about the places I have lived and what they are analogous to.
Mountain Home, ID–Living here is like walking through a sleet storm but not really minding it a great deal because you know you have something gratifying on the other side. People here really seem to have a self-sufficient, tough it out kind of ethos. Things don’t seem to impact them the same way they might in other locales.
Asheville, NC–Because of how good a time someone can have there and because of the many and varied experiences one can have, it was kind of like really good sex. A couple can do any number of things between them and don’t at all need to be consistent from instance to instance. That’s what it’s like to live in Asheville: There’s always something new and different to do, if you’re willing to try something different.
Hampton Roads, VA–This was like having no other food options except ones that are incredibly unhealthy but taste really good, i.e. fast food. It was the height of accessibility to every store, bar, activity, type of person, etc., etc. you might ever want. However, all of this came at a great price, namely the other side of living in a city–traffic, murder, crowds, etc.
Pennsylvania–All of PA, for me, is like a great big, really comfortable chair–very predictable but not challenging in any way. I feel like I know that PA will always be there for me if I need it and it’s not going to change anytime soon.
I know this might seem like a very strange stream of thought but Erin and I found it pretty entertaining, especially while trying to pass the time driving through those

I think Floridians and Californians are the ones who have to be tough. Hurricanes , wildfires, mudslides and earthquakes make one become self-sufficient. Actually, the mid-Atlantic states are the most sensible to live in except for the occassional tornaado or blizzard.
whoops, forget sinkholes in Florida where your house is gobbled up by the earth. You better have insurance! nothing more beautiful then the summer days in Pa. and Northern Ohio. Lived there all my life, few days are not nice, that is why we have snowbirds.
