Who’s your daddy?

My boss’s daughter works for MAHEC as a medical transcriptionist. She’s a very kind, welcoming woman. As Erin wrote here the other day, she had her final appointment there this week. I was not able to go along because of work demands and was feeling guilty because I knew that the visit, etc. would require more time than Maggie was willing to be quiet and still. I didn’t want Erin to have to divide her attention between Maggie and Chris, but there was nothing I could do. So, that’s why I was so grateful when I heard from my boss that her daughter had called and bragged to her mom about being able to take Maggie and walk around the office, keeping her occupied while Erin had her appointment. She did this for 45 minutes. Some people are just so giving and kind…the weird thing is, she probably didn’t even realize that what she was doing meant so much.
Anyway, when my boss was telling me about the phone call, she used the phrase ‘your daughter’ when referring to Maggie. I think she is the first person to use that language, as least concerning Maggie and I. It really caught me and made me stop. It got me to thinking about what it means to me to be a father. The very first thought I had was that it means being gentle, mostly because there’s already so much non-gentleness in the world. Maggie will undoubtedly run into more than enough situations in her life that will bruise and batter her a little (in fact, she already has/is; her colic cannot possibly be any fun for her).
There’s obviously many more characteristics I associate with being a father and just as many, if not more, with being a good dad. But if I were to try and list those right now, this post would be miles long. So, I invite your input on what you think makes a good father and dad.

Remember Caesar all Iraq will be divided into 3 parts just as Gaul was. Remember Republicans in
Idaho are hard rock conservatives. Must be many mormans there. very interesting that those are the only states that Bushy approval rating is still high.
