“Mom and Daddy, they taught me right/To be an all American bluegrass girl”

*“All American Bluegrass Girl” by Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. This woman and her band have been receiving a great deal of praise and attention–and they deserve it. Check them out.
We listen to a couple of radio stations from the Western North Carolina area via the internet. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to do this; I really can’t put into words how grateful I am that we have this ability. One of these stations is WNCW, 88.7FM out of Spindale, NC. The other is WDVX, 89.9FM out of Clinton, TN. They are both independent, meaning that they don’t depend on support from advertisers and don’t sell out AT ALL to what the big record companies tell the commercial radio stations to play (that’s right–the idea of the old traditional radio station with the DJ deciding what to play and all that–it’s gone, evaporated under the hot glare of money and more money). Therefore, they both play an amazing variety of music, to include bluegrass. They’re able to do this because they receive support from their listeners. They are wonderful examples of America at the small scale. Anyway, to the point.
When things are quiet around the house, I will sometimes sit down at the computer and turn the music on. As we have said here in the past, Maggie loves music and dancing to it. The really cute thing is, Maggie walked up to me twice this weekend, while I was sitting at the computer but without the music, and started dancing and even pointing at the monitor and grunting. She loves the music so much, she knows how to ask for it–that is cool!!!
