Playtime for Maggie

Yesterday Maggie and I went to the local Youth Center for ‘Tot Time’. ‘Tot Time’ is basically time for children of ages 1-4 to have supervised playtime together in the gym. I would not have known about if it weren’t for a nice Mother who told me about it when Jason, Maggie and I were having lunch together last week. Maggie and I were first to arrive in the gym. Someone had already scattered over 100 balls of different sizes all over the gym. I put Maggie down on the floor and she squealed and crawled after the balls. She must have chased balls around the whole gym 3 times. I tried to introduce her to the other babies her age but she was only interested in playing with the balls and watching the little girl ride around the gym on a tricycle. Then, she happened upon the Fisher-Price Musical Activity Walker. At that point she stopped chasing balls and stole the walker from a 15 month old boy. She grabbed the handle bars from him and was off in a sprint across the gym. I almost cried because I knew at that moment that it was all over for me - she would be running around the house in no time!
Today I drove Maggie and I into Boise for our first of 20 weekly class at The Little Gym. The Little Gym’s design is a large room with two sections, one side is a giant mat for group work and the other side is a bunch of mats and age appropriate gym equipment. The ’semester’ is 20 weeks and each class is 45 minutes in length. Maggie is one of 6 babies with ages ranging from 10-18 months (parents participate with their children). Although the price tag on the class isn’t cheap, I believe it is well worth the investment for Maggie. At the start of class it was pretty obvious that Maggie was not interested in the group playtime. Maggie headed off immediately to the gym area where she climbed up and down the mats having a good time on her own. Maggie eventually played a little bit with the other babies but for the most part enjoyed exploring on her own.

I think thats a great place for Maggie to explore the world. It’s nice for you to see other moms and children as well. Every class she will continue to surprise you with her new abilities and strengths. Miss you!!!
