On this occasion, I have no problem admitting I was wrong. I was terribly afraid of the trip we just completed with regard to how Maggie was going to handle all of the air travel. I can’t say she did a perfect job but for being nine months old and sick part of the time, she did pretty darn well.

The three of us had six seperate flights (b/t Boise and Phoneix twice, Phoneix to Philadelphia once, Phila. to Orlando once, and Orlando to Charlotte once) together and I had three additional getting to and from Baltimore. As is normally the case, I was the low-performer of the group, when you factor in the fact that Maggie is just a baby. I moaned and complained alot, whereas Erin pretty much just dealt with it. I tell ya what, if through some terrible circumstance I were to be without her, I don’t know what I would do. Certainly, there are areas where I am the stronger one, but on balance, she is the one who holds this thing together. Do I like it that way? Am I content to allow that flavor of us to persist? No and no, but it is the way things are right now. Prior to having Maggie around, I wasn’t sure how good a mama she would be simply because I had no frame of reference, no experience in seeing her deal with all the things it takes to competently fill that role. I know now I had absolutely no reason to worry or doubt. Sometimes, especially the mornings after Maggie has kept her up most of the night, I seriously don’t know how she pulls it off.

Anyway, we arrived back home late last night and after we negoitiated to give the Boise airport our second born child in order to be released from the long-term lot, we drove home through the rainy desert. Much to our dismay, there were piles of snow in the parking lots of Mtn Home; apparently, we received roughly four inches late last week. We are sad to have missed it.

The highlight of the day today will likely be getting Wilson back from the doggie-daycare, for which we will need to surrender any and all additional children and valuable possessions. I just hope he remembers us; 12 days can be a long time :)

[…] Y’all need an update on Maggie. Prior to Christmas vacation, she was standing on her own for maybe one or three seconds. It was cool. Then we came home and she suddenly had no interest in trying. That went on until about a week ago. I came home from work one day and Erin excitedly told me that Maggie had stood that day, raised her hands above her head, and smiled the biggest smile ever. It took a day or two but I was finally able to witness this as well. As time has gone on this week, she has gotten increasingly daring, to where now she actually stands up in the bathtub during her baths. It’s really cool to watch; she just sort of stands there, very stable and much more sure of herself than before. In fact, whereas before gravity would take her back to a seated position, now she takes herself there. My mother made the prediction last weekend that Maggie would be walking by her first birthday; at the time, I kind of doubted the idea but now I am inclined to believe it. Anyway, be sure to take a look at the pictures we have posted of Maggie standing in the kitchen. […]
