“Nothing grows, and life aint very pretty/No one’s there to catch you when you fall”*

*In the City by The Eagles. The Eagles are one of the greatest bands, at least lyrically, of the second half of the 20th century. If you’ve never done so, take the opportunity to really listen to some of their songs and you will find (IMHO) incredibly profound insights into some of the more mysterious aspects of life.Â
I am visiting my grandparents, aunt, and cousins in Baltimore. Boy, I’ll tell you what, I had almost forgotten how much I don’t miss being in the city. Asheville didn’t really count because you could get around fairly easily without much concern for getting lost. Mountain Home obviously doesn’t count because if you do get lost, all you have to do is walk around for another 5 minutes and you’ll find your way again. But Baltimore is a completely different story. I’ve never really felt the whole thing of feeling anonymous in the city until this visit. I feel so disconnected, like the people around me are alien to me rather than sharing with me the status of being human beings. I guess this is just one of those moments in life where one finds out something about themselves. I have discovered that I don’t like the city because there are just too many–people, cars, buildings, roads, etc.–and not enough–nature, caring, mindfulness, moments of clarity, etc.
