You stand in the same river but only once

I saw a very beautiful thing today: I was driving through the expanse of my workplace where the leaves have happened to be changing for quite some time. As I drove, admiring this most wonderful of all Autumn’s beholds, I noticed one tree from which copious amounts of leaves were falling. No, there wasn’t a naughty child shaking the trunk; it was simply time for each of those leaves to litter the ground beneath. It was amazing to see not one or two falling but a dozen or two at a time. How often in our lives are we witnesses to such a dramatic transformation? Our children take their first steps, a loved one utters marriage vows, an athlete attains the championship they so long sought. The chances to see such are few; I am grateful to have had that chance today.

You know, I recently read or heard that leaves don’t actually fall from trees as a result of the wind but are pushed from the limb by a process within the branch…I had no idea…
