Giddy Up

Blog from Erin:
Ash, the west. Not quite as I imagined it. I guess I should have watched more Westerns. I don’t mean it in a bad way, just that I had a different image in my head. Driving through Wyoming has been an incredible visual experience. Leaving Cheyenne behind us I’m guessing it was about 120 miles until we reached the next civilization. Our route, Interstate 80, is about 6000 feet above sea level and desert-like. We could see for miles and miles in front and behind us. Far away looms the huge pointy white glazed mountains. About half way access Wyoming moving westward, a second type of mountain emerged. These mini-mountains are mostly smooth and wind carved. A couple cool looking boulder size rock formations make the landscape interesting. As for coloring, only shades of brown and tan. Could this landscape be considered beautiful? Probably not. The word beautiful most often belongs to the female as she is nurturing and holds the great power of giving life. I would define this land as masculine and rugged. The land is barren and except for a few dozen groups of antelope, not much life, human or animal, lives here.
As we pass into Utah, the landscape immediately changes. Most notably is the revival of trees and color. The mountains finally exhale allowing a peaceful blanket of light mossy green icing. Deep golds and maroon paint our way through the cannons. This is the west I imagined.

Erin, you have been to the west. We were in the Sierra Nevadas and Northern California. Pictures are beautiful. Maggie and you took such a cute picture. Take care and have a safe journey to Mountain Home. Love mom and dad and Abby
