Tomorrow I have to lead a guided imagery relaxation exercise for my classmates. This is not going to be easy for me. If you’ve never been through one of these experiences, its purpose is relaxation. You close your eyes, relax your body, and imagine what the facilitator is telling you to imagine. It’s usually a peaceful scene, something by the ocean or in the woods. Anyway, it seems the adage ‘You can find anything on the Internet’ is not all that true. I have been looking for the text of such an exercise so I don’t have to make it up myself. There are certain elements you’re supposed to include, things that make people feel empowered and aware of themselves. I don’t know how to do this, how to evoke this kind of thing for people. But, oh boy, if you’re willing to shell out the cash, there are plenty of people who will sell you some guided imagery. It’s kind of funny: you think the new age crowd, into peace, centeredness, all that crap, would make some of this stuff available for free. It doesn’t seem so. The bottom line: I am going to have to come up with this on my own. We’ll see how this goes; I don’t have a lot of optimism.
