Our evolution, herein contained

Mostly bored

It’s now day of training 2 (DOT 2) and things seem to be going along nicely. The lodging accommodations are nice, the classrooms are good, and the training itself seems to be par for the course. There’s a lot more to come but for now, it’s good.

The one downside I can think of is there is not a lot to write about. Not being around the girls sort of decreases the number of things I can write about that most people reading this would be interested in. I could complain about Montgomery for four weeks but that would not be good for me and would not hold y’all’s attention. I could constantly mention how much I miss Erin and Maggie but I won’t do that for the same reasons. I could write about how excited Erin and I are to finally arrive in Mtn Home but we have been reserving excitement because we are trying to manage our expectations. (We have found that keeping ourselves neutral regarding what we expect out of something almost always works out better. People have this way of tightly defining what something is going to be or what its attributes are before they even know anything about it. Then, when they reach their destination or acquire the item and it doesn’t precisely match the image in their head, they must wrestle with a surprising level of disappointment or lack of enthusiasm.) So, I am left with a mind that grasps for topics and is currently coming up empty.

Someone (my wife and mother, mostly) might say, ‘Write about your day, how you spend it.’ Well, again, not too exciting. I get up and have to be at school by 7:45 am. I get home around 5 pm. I have reading to do and will eventually have assignments to complete. And, of course, there’s all the typical distractions: movies, TV, the internet, hanging out with people, etc. I’ve been shooting to go to bed at 10 because I would like to get up around 5 so I can exercise. I figure I can get it done in the morning and my day remains pretty much the same as I outlined above, whereas if I wait until the evening, I’ll probably feel hurried at the end of the day. Well, that’s pretty much it. I haven’t gone exploring and I don’t really know if I will. I’m not really too excited about this town. Certain people have mentioned that the area has a lot of interesting history. I’ve never been much of a history buff. I would, however, be interested in seeing some of the civil rights memorials, etc. Of course, the Montgomery Bus Boycott happened here, which was obviously very significant. And I’m sure there’s a lot of other things along those lines. But I think I’ll wait until the weekends to see any of that sort of thing.
